Grounding Techniques
-
This technique allows you to feel and then release tension physically. You may use your fists only, or try moving through your entire body starting at your toes and moving up to your neck and shoulders.
Begin by noticing where you are holding tension in the body, tense and rest, noticing the mind/body connection upon release.

Name five things you can see, four you can touch, three you can hear, two you can smell, and one you can taste
Body Mapping
-
During the body scan meditation take note of what you are holding in your body and where. For example, a tight jaw or tension in your shoulders.
On your body outline utilize metaphor to describe physical sensations using line, symbol and color. For example, red spikes to describe tense shoulders.
Imagine the aura and space around your body, what does it look like? What is it’s texture? Depict this on your body outline.
You may use two outline templates, one for the front of your body and one for the back.
Fill the entire paper with line, symbol and color.
After completing your outline hold your hand to the places you noticed pain or tension. Imagine breathing bright, warm light into these spaces.
Finally, thank your body for sharing this information with you! We will explore body outlines over time, create as many as you can with the date/time and a description of what you noticed in your body on the back of your artwork.

“We help youth and adults with coming-out issues, safer-sex information, school bullying, family concerns, relationship problems, and a lot more. The people who turn to us for help often live in rural and conservative parts of the country and are frequently feeling severely isolated, closeted and in despair, with literally no one else safe to talk to.
We care deeply about confidentiality. We understand that what is discussed with us is private.”
